App to help refugees

Our students have created a mobile and web app to help refugees. The app, called “Gdzie” (“Where”), directs refugees to places where they can receive assistance. The selection of proposed locations depends on the individual’s profile and specific needs, including their place of work, school or a healthcare centre. Refugees receive a list of locations with contact details. The algorithm relies on API data for domain knowledge bases of the Main Statistical Office.

The app was developed by a team [Object.Object] led by Aleksandra Jamróz, 2nd year Computer Science student at our Faculty. It received an award at the prestigious Datathon coding event #OtwarteDane (#OpenData) organised by the Chancellery of the Polish Prime Minister in early April this year. The developers of the winning application include: Aleksandra Jamróz, Patryk Będkowski, Kuba Forczek (Warsaw University of Technology), Grzegorz Koperwas, Kamil Kowalczyk (Silesian University of Technology).

More than thirty participants working in eight teams took part in the final round of the competition. All projects have a chance to be implemented to help Ukrainian nationals. For more information visit: https://hackathon.gov.pl
